Disney has started putting up Kingdom Hearts banners outside the Anaheim Convention Center a week before its D23 Deep Dive panel, turning an already watched Disney event into something fans are reading like a signal. One of the banners shows Kingdom Hearts 3 Sora and Mickey beside the series logo.
That kind of promotion matters because Kingdom Hearts has not appeared at D23 since 2015, and the series is back in the spotlight after Kingdom Hearts 4 was re-revealed in June. Disney has confirmed that Kingdom Hearts will have a serious presence at D23 this August, so the banner is not just decoration. It is the first public sign that Disney wants the series front and center before the panel even starts.
ScottGustin was the one who identified the outside banner and pointed out something fans immediately noticed: Disney used the exact same render of Kingdom Hearts 3 Sora that it used in 2015. That matters because the old image connects this year’s buildup to the last time Kingdom Hearts showed up at D23, when Big Hero 6 was revealed for the series. It also keeps expectations high without giving away the shape of the announcement.
What Disney did not show is just as important. The banner does not feature Kingdom Hearts 4 artwork, even though that is what many fans are hoping to see. Instead, Disney chose an older visual tied to the series’ past D23 appearance, which leaves the main reveal unresolved and makes the panel feel less like a simple reminder and more like a deliberate hold-back.
For now, the message is clear enough. Disney is not waiting for the D23 Deep Dive to begin treating Kingdom Hearts like a major draw, and the week of teasing has already done part of the work. The unanswered question is not whether the series will matter at D23. It is what Disney is saving for the panel after advertising it this way.
