Josh Jacobs to miss at least a week after groin injury at Packers camp

Josh Jacobs will be sidelined after suffering a groin injury during Packers training camp sessions this week, and Matt LaFleur said the running back will miss “at least this week.” The timing matters because Green Bay is suddenly without its leading rusher, and the team has only Marshawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks and Pierre Strong Jr. left as immediate options.

Jacobs has been the Packers’ most productive runner since signing in 2024, and his absence removes a player who has already delivered 2,258 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns through two seasons with Green Bay. That production is why his exit lands now instead of later: the Packers are trying to sort out their backfield at the same moment they lose the one runner who had established himself as the center of it.

The injury, though, is only part of the story. Jacobs could also be facing a suspension tied to a possible violation of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy, and he still has an open investigation into a domestic violence incident. That leaves Green Bay dealing with two separate uncertainties at once — one about when he can return to the field, and another about whether the league will step in at all.

For now, the immediate question is less about a long-term absence than about how much time Jacobs actually misses after this week. LaFleur did not expand on the severity of the groin injury, which leaves the Packers to lean on depth that was already thinner than usual. If Jacobs is unavailable beyond the short term, the workload in Green Bay could shift quickly, and the answer may depend as much on recovery as on anything happening away from the field.
