Marshals season 2 casting changes bring Marque Richardson into the series as a recurring Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Burns, while Morgan Lindholm is back to expand on her role as Maddie. The move gives the CBS drama one new recurring figure and a bigger presence for a character already tied to the show’s central family drama.
The timing is the point. Production on the new season began in Park City, Utah, in June, and the show is set to return with new episodes this fall, so the casting update lands while viewers are looking for signs of who made it through the Season 1 finale and who did not.
Lindholm’s return matters because Maddie is not just another name on the roster. She is the bartender at Bullet ’N Barrel and Cal’s estranged daughter, which puts her close to the story’s emotional center even without a clear count yet on how much more screen time she will get. That ambiguity is part of the draw: she is being expanded, but not defined in detail.
Richardson’s role as Patrick Burns adds another layer to that uncertainty. Season 1 ended with Pete Calvin and Belle Skinner-Turek in imminent danger after they were led to a house where two men with big guns shot at them, and outside of Luke Grimes, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means, there is still no confirmation about which other main cast members will be back. Santos is also shown returning for the premiere episode All Hat No Cattle, which reinforces that the second season is still being assembled around the fallout from that finale.
That is why the cast news lands as more than a routine update. Marshals averaged 20.4 million multiplatform viewers across its first eight episodes, and the series comes into its second season with real momentum and unfinished business. Centered on Kayce Dutton after he leaves the Yellowstone Ranch behind to join an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, the show is now using its return to lock in new and returning faces without yet answering every question the finale left behind. The next thing viewers know for sure is that new episodes are coming this fall, and the rest of the cast picture may not be complete until then.
