Taylor Farms recalled products containing jalapeños on August 9 after the company said it had sourced the peppers from Coast Citrus Distributors, pulling items already sent to retail distribution centers in 26 states. The recall comes as the FDA and CDC investigate a multi-state Salmonella outbreak tied to the same jalapeños.
The timing matters because the affected products all carry a Best If Used By date of August 16, 2026 or earlier, which means they may already be in kitchens and refrigerators. The products may have been sold at Hannaford, Kroger, Stop and Shop, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart or Whole Foods.
As of August 5, the FDA said 345 people across 27 states had been infected with Salmonella Javiana in an outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. Taylor Farms said it has stopped sourcing jalapeños from Coast Citrus Distributors and has received no reports of illness tied to its specific jalapeño products, even as health investigators continue to examine whether the peppers helped spread the outbreak.
The recall follows a separate Taylor Farms action in July involving iceberg lettuce and cyclospora, adding another food-safety problem for the company in the same summer. This time, the core question for shoppers is narrower and more immediate: whether jalapeño-containing products already bought from major retailers should be thrown out.
