Paris Jackson said she ended her engagement to Justin Long because staying would not have made her happy, and she made that clear during an August 12 appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast. She said the breakup was not a snap decision, but one she reached only after deciding she had to be sure.
Jackson, 28, had already publicly confirmed the split on July 31, 2025, but she used the interview to explain what was behind it. She said she kept asking herself whether things would improve if she hung in there a little longer, and that she needed support from a therapist, a clinical psychologist, a coach and friends while working through that question.
Her account was blunt. Jackson said that just because someone is a good person does not mean they are her person, and that her non-negotiables are allowed to stay non-negotiables. She said the engagement ended in 2025 after roughly three years together, following an announcement in December 2024 that had drawn attention to the relationship.
She also made clear that this was not her first engagement, and that the earlier one carried its own painful history. Jackson said she had once been secretly engaged during a period when she and a former partner were heavily using drugs, and that the ring had been bought with her money without her knowledge. Even so, she said that engagement was real to her and that the love felt real, too.
That is what gives the current split its weight. Jackson was not describing a passing argument or a temporary pause. She was describing a choice, made after reflection, that the relationship was not right for her even if it was not easy to leave. Her own words suggest the ending came from certainty, not drama.
The unresolved piece is the one she did not spell out: what, exactly, made her decide that Jackson and Long no longer fit together. She did not point to a single incident or public rupture. Instead, she described a slower realization that being with someone who is good was not enough if the relationship did not match what she says she needs. That leaves the split defined less by scandal than by limits she decided not to move past.
For Jackson, the story now is not whether the engagement ended. It is that she says she knew enough to stop it, after testing the question long enough to trust her answer.
