The New York Giants will host Terrion Arnold for a free-agent visit on Wednesday, a sign they are still weighing him even as he faces eight felony charges. The move comes while the Giants are dealing with cornerback shortages and looking for help.
Arnold, 23, was a 2024 first-round pick by the Detroit Lions before they released him on June 29. He has already visited with the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans, and the Giants are now next in line to decide whether the risk is worth it.
The charges are serious. Prosecutors in Florida said in June that Arnold arranged for three men to be pistol-whipped after he wrongly suspected them of stealing $100,000 in cash and luxury goods from him. Police called him the primary conspirator in the February attack, a judge set bail at $1 million, and Pro Football Talk said a conviction could result in a life sentence for Arnold.
That legal backdrop has not kept NFL teams from checking on him, even after the Lions moved on. It also lands at a moment when the Giants were without three of their top five cornerbacks at practice on Tuesday, with Dru Phillips out because of a knee sprain, Greg Newsome missing time with a knee injury and Paulson Adebo not practicing. The team has also signed J.T. Woods, David Long and D.J. James in the past week, and Woods tried out last week before visiting on Sunday.
What happens after Wednesday is the part that still matters most. The Giants can evaluate Arnold in person, but the visit does not answer whether they will sign him, and it leaves them balancing an obvious roster need against charges that could define everything around him.
