Phenix City’s 12U All-Star team turned a rough start into a place in the championship game, beating Florida 8-5 on Sunday in the Little League Southeast Regional tournament. The Alabama representative will play for the title on Tuesday.
The win was built on recovery, not comfort. Phenix City fell behind 4-0 in the first inning after defensive errors, then answered with six runs in the third inning on timely hits to take control. Florida never pulled back even as the game stretched to six innings.
For Phenix City, the result did more than add a win to the bracket. It sent the team from Alabama into the final round of the tournament and left one game between it and the regional crown. The title game is set for Tuesday, Aug. 11, after Tennessee and Florida were scheduled to play Monday at 11AM ET.
The bigger story is the way Phenix City got there. A team that opened the game with mistakes still found enough offense to flip it, and that kind of response is what keeps a tournament run alive in Warner Robins, Ga. Tuesday will show whether that comeback carries one step further.
