A Flood Advisory was in effect for Cuyahoga County until 11:30 a.m. Monday as scattered storms moved in from the west and brought another round of wet weather to Northeast Ohio.
The alert mattered now because the morning storms were expected to push out around midday, but many people were still looking at only a few dry hours before the atmosphere reloaded for more storms late in the afternoon and evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning also covered Summit, Portage, Medina and Ashtabula counties until 9:45 a.m., a sign that the stronger weather was already hitting parts of the region early.
The biggest concern was not just rain falling once, but rain falling again over the same places. Forecasters said some storms could turn strong with heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning, and the West Region was likely to see each round first as the storms moved in from Indiana and western Ohio. If the bands keep lining up over the same area, the highest rain totals may end up there, while residents of Cuyahoga County could still face brief flooding from repeated downpours before the advisory expires.
The setup stayed hard to pin down because a stalled front was sitting nearby, giving several waves of energy a path to ride along it through today, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. That means multiple rounds of storms remain possible, with any region able to see a strong storm later today even after a break in the weather. Monday was forecast to bring morning downpours, afternoon storms and the possibility of severe weather with a high of 84 degrees, followed by waves of storms Tuesday, a few showers Wednesday, isolated rain Thursday and storms possible Friday. For Cleveland Weather, the practical answer is that the morning advisory may end at 11:30 a.m., but the day is not expected to stay quiet for long.
