Tallulah Willis married musician Justin Acee on Saturday, August 8, in Sun Valley, Idaho, closing a wedding story that had already been taking shape a week earlier inside the Chateau Marmont. By then, she had just finished her final fitting for a custom Balenciaga couture gown, and the dress had become part of the news itself.
That is why the wedding is drawing attention now: it is a dated celebrity milestone, but it is also a look at how a dress that began as a set of ideas became a finished couture piece. Vogue joined Willis for the fitting just over a week before the ceremony, and she said she was feeling “almost out of body” as she tried on what she described as a “princess moment” with her family nearby.
Willis worked with Demi Moore’s longtime stylist Brad Goreski to gather inspiration and references for the Balenciaga team, and creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli turned that into one of the first bridal gowns he created in his new role. The strapless column dress was built from silk satin and backed with silk organza, with a draped train skirt and a bow in back. It took 712 hours of work, including 405 hours for construction and atelier alterations and nine hours for the veil alone.
The scale of that labor is what makes the gown stand out. Hand embroidery was done by artisans in the Balenciaga atelier, while each organza petal was individually beaded and attached one by one, a process that took about 60 hours. The strapless bodice was made from cotton tulle and reinforced with hand-picoted faille, and the neckline drew on a Balenciaga look Moore wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar party earlier in the year.
That result came a long way from where the bridal search started. Scout joked that Willis had been sent Etsy wedding dresses six months earlier, and Willis said the shift from Etsy to Balenciaga couture was its own moment. She also said Piccioli wanted the bow to feel like a package being unwrapped, and described the room where the details came together as a place where she could see her own ideas come to life.
There is still one unanswered piece in the story: how Willis and Acee met, and how long they had been planning the wedding. What is clear is that the public moment has already arrived, and the dress that surrounded it was not an afterthought but a major part of the event itself.
