Desley Robinson puts her WBO and IBF world middleweight titles on the line tonight in Orlando, Florida, against Tamm Thibeault, the unbeaten Canadian challenger who has been installed as the odds-on favourite. It is the kind of fight that can turn a champion’s year in one night.
That is why Robinson is being searched now. The 38-year-old has not lost in more than two years and has built a title run that includes a points win over Kaye Scott in December 2024, a victory over Chloe Chaos in 2025 to add the WBO belt and an outpointing of Mary Spencer in May. Thibeault, 29, is 4-0 as a professional, but this is a major step up from the four-fight record suggests.
Thibeault won her debut against Natasha Spence on points and has since picked up three stoppage wins in a row, including a first-round finish of Cristina Mazzotta last time out. The raw numbers look sharp, but they also show how little she has had to do over distance. She has boxed eleven professional rounds in total, and nine of them came in just two fights. In practical boxing terms, that means she has spent very little time in the kind of late-round pressure a title fight can produce.
Robinson is the opposite of a warm-up opponent. The preview describes her as strong, awkward and able to make a fight ugly, which is exactly the sort of style that can punish a fast-rising favourite who has not yet been tested over long stretches. She also carries a clear reason to fight hard. Robinson said she wants to do something great, and a win tonight would keep both of her belts in place while handing Thibeault the first defeat of her professional career.
The reason the fight is in Orlando is simple enough: this is the night and place chosen for a world title bout that can reshape the middleweight division. What remains unknown is whether Thibeault’s amateur pedigree and early pro power are enough to solve a champion who has already proven she can survive the first challenge and come back stronger. Robinson has done that once already. If she does it again, the favourite’s rise will have hit its first real wall.
