SpaceX and Terafab told Grimes County residents on Wednesday morning that the JETI agreements for the Terafab project are done and active, marking a shift from questions to action in Anderson, Texas. Riley Trennell said the project will move nearly immediately now that the agreements are complete, with civil work and foundations needing to start soon.
That is why the meeting drew attention now. For months, residents had been asking what would happen next, and the answer offered in the Grimes County Commissioners Court room was that the project has moved into its next phase. SpaceX is committing to 3,000 permanent jobs at the facility in phase one, along with thousands of construction jobs during the build-out, which gives the announcement more weight than a routine update.
Trennell said renderings of the facility could be released within days, and he said construction could begin within months. That timeline matters because it suggests the project is no longer just a proposal on paper, but a site being prepared for work that could soon be visible to the public. The job promises also stretch beyond advanced semiconductor fabrication engineering to include food service, janitorial services and security, showing how broad the operation is expected to be.
The choice of site, though, is not presented as simple or perfect. Trennell said there is no perfect place in the United States to build the facility, even as SpaceX says the chosen location is the best solution it found. He cited the Texas Triangle, Houston's labor force, fuel for power generation and the water storage capacity of the Gibbons Creek Reservoir as the reasons the company settled on Grimes County.
Jordan Buss went further, calling Terafab strategically vital for the United States and for Western civilization, and said the project is meant to reduce America's reliance on foreign-made chips. That is the larger bet behind the announcement: not only a county project, but a push to bring more semiconductor work into the country. For Grimes County, the next visible milestone may come quickly if the renderings arrive within days and civil work starts soon after.
