Alanna Smith’s Australian basketball trading-card market topped out at AU$2,543 on the morning of August 4, 2026, leaving the reigning WNBA Co-Defensive Player of the Year eighth of the 10 Australians surveyed on eBay Australia. The number matters because it puts one of the sport’s current defensive standouts far behind the top of the Australian market, even with live listings still out in the open.
The survey looked at 10 Australians through 10 eBay Australia searches sorted by highest price first and sifted through about 590 items, with roughly 57 to 60 live listings per player. Smith’s ceiling sat well below Andrew Bogut at AU$15,210, Josh Giddey at AU$15,000, Ben Simmons at AU$12,822 and Patty Mills at AU$9,711, while Dyson Daniels reached AU$3,918 and Lauren Jackson AU$3,604.
That gap is the point. Smith and Ezi Magbegor are playing right now in a league in the middle of a commercial boom, yet they ranked eighth and ninth of 10 in the same snapshot, and Magbegor’s market topped out below AU$600. The market is not rewarding current form evenly, at least not on cardboard, and that leaves women’s active stars trying to climb a ladder already crowded by older, deeper and more established trading-card demand.
Andrew Gaze offered the clearest contrast between memorabilia and cards. His page was the only one of the ten where objects outranked cardboard, led by a signed And1 ball and shirt at AU$2,611 and a framed and authenticated K-Mart top at AU$2,080, while the only Sydney 2000 item on his page was a book he signed with Susie O'Neill at AU$149.95. There is still no Sydney 2000 flag-bearer kit for sale anywhere, which shows how thin some of the rarer Australian items remain even as the broader market keeps moving.
For Smith, the immediate answer is not a title or a playoff run but a price ceiling. AU$2,543 is a real market, just not a deep one, and the next test is whether more live listings or stronger buyer demand can push her out of the lower tier and closer to the names sitting above her.
