Authorities were investigating a mass shooting at a home in Prospect Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday after multiple people were reported dead and one person was taken to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound.
The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened before 8 a.m. on Brooks Road in the Prospect Hill area. Investigators from the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and State Bureau of Investigation were gathered in front of the home as the scene remained under active review.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said there were multiple fatalities, but officials had not released the names of those involved. They also had not released information about a possible suspect, leaving the basic facts of the case clearer than the motive, the people behind it or whether anyone was being sought.
That gap matters because the shooting is being treated as a mass-casualty event, yet the most immediate questions remain unanswered: who was inside the home, who was hurt, and whether the person taken to Duke University Hospital is the only survivor to have come out of the scene alive.
