The punishment stems from events after the Leagues Cup 2025 final, when Inter Miami lost 3-0 to Seattle Sounders. Osaze De Rosario, Alex Roldán and Paul Rothrock scored in that match, and Suárez later confronted Obed Vargas. Sergio Busquets then physically attacked Vargas after the initial confrontation, while Suárez spat in the face of Gene Ramírez. The league reviewed those actions and settled on six matches, the minimum penalty under the competition’s rules for this kind of misconduct.
That minimum matters because it leaves no wiggle room for Suárez or Inter Miami. A six-match suspension spans the whole group stage and every knockout round the club could reach, so there is no scenario in which he returns before the tournament ends. For a team built to contend for the Leagues Cup, the loss of its most productive attacker changes the shape of the competition before a ball is kicked.
The cleanest reading is also the hardest for Inter Miami: the club must begin the Leagues Cup without the player who has been most responsible for turning chances into goals. If Miami goes deep, the absence lasts all the way to the final.
