Lindsay Lohan is red again. The 40-year-old showed off a new look on Instagram on Tuesday, posting photos with long red locks, tousled waves, natural makeup and a blue-and-white robe.
The reaction was immediate. Fans filled the comments with versions of the same message: redheaded Lindsay is the one they know best, the one they remember from the films that made her a star. That response makes sense because Lohan built much of her early image around red hair in The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
That is what makes the timing matter now. She had most recently been blonde, including in some scenes from a recent Reese’s ad, and she has also been sharing behind-the-scenes looks at that project, where blonde and red styles both appear. In the ad, Amy Sedaris and her twin turn up at Lohan’s Reese’s Twins Retreat camp, turning the hair switch into part of the same playful promotional world.
Lohan has been revisiting that earlier chapter in another way, too. Recently, she reflected on The Parent Trap in an interview with Parade, saying it was her first movie audition and her first film, and that the role still means a great deal to her. She also said she has always felt like a mix of both feminine and tomboy traits, and that she likes long hair better, even though she once wanted a shorter cut when she was young.
That leaves the one question the photos do not answer: whether this redhead turn is a lasting return or another look tied to a project. For now, the image that has taken hold is simple. Lohan is back in the color that helped define her, and fans are treating it like a homecoming.
