Amy Pascal says the next James Bond announcement could land by the end of the 2026 movie calendar, giving the slow-moving search for Daniel Craig’s successor its clearest timing signal yet. She said the end of the year is a good bet and called the process “really, really methodical.”
For Bond fans, that matters because Craig spent 15 years in the role and left with No Time to Die, closing a run that began with Casino Royale and ended in 2021. Since then, the hunt for 007 has produced far more rumors than actual information, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James and Callum Turner all discussed online as possible contenders, and one recent report saying the search had moved into talent testing.
Pascal is helping steer the next film with David Heyman, while Denis Villeneuve is directing and Steven Knight is writing the screenplay. Tanya Lapointe is also serving as executive producer. Amazon MGM Studios has praised Villeneuve’s ability to build immersive theatrical worlds through Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune films, a sign that the studio wants the next Bond to feel both familiar and newly scaled up.
That still leaves the central problem untouched: the producers are looking for someone who is not just different from Craig, but “something really different” that is stirring and exciting, as Pascal put it. Villeneuve has described Bond as “sacred territory,” which helps explain why the casting search has moved so carefully and why another round of auditions was expected in August rather than a quick announcement.
The new 007 may not be revealed tomorrow, but Pascal’s timeline narrows the wait. If the process stays on track, Bond 26 is headed toward a cast lead by the end of 2026, and the question now is not whether the search is real, but which actor can satisfy a team that says it wants a complete break from Craig without losing what made James Bond endure.
