A 60-year-old Morgan County man who was the subject of a Silver Alert was found dead Sunday evening, ending a search that had begun earlier that day.
Morgan County Executive Brian Langley said he was on scene as crews helped the Tennessee Highway Patrol search for Garrett. The search started Sunday afternoon in Morgan County after Garrett was last seen Saturday near Calvin Howard Road in Lancing.
The discovery closed a same-day search, but it did not answer the most important question left behind. The cause of Garrett’s death was still unknown at the time of the report, leaving investigators and the people who had been looking for him with grief and few immediate answers.
Silver Alert cases are meant to push a missing-person search into motion quickly, and that happened here. The alert drew in county and state help, but the effort ended in death rather than a recovery. What comes next is not another search. It is the determination of how Garrett died, and that remained unresolved as the report came out Sunday night.
