Samara Weaving has been reported as cast as Emma Frost in Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, a sign that the studio's search for key roles is moving from rumor to names. Margot Robbie, whose name had been widely floated for the part, was never seriously in contention, according to a source familiar with the casting process.

The timing matters because auditions for X-Men have been going on since May, and the Frost role is now being described as the most thoroughly searched part in the film. Justin Kroll said on X that the studio had been auditioning the role like the others, which is why someone like Robbie was never a real possibility; he also said the search for Frost had been the most exhaustive.

That puts a line through a rumor that had gathered speed around one of Hollywood's most visible names. Robbie built her DC profile as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad in 2016, returned in Birds of Prey in 2020 and again in The Suicide Squad in 2021, so her link to another comic-book franchise was always going to draw attention. But the latest reporting points away from her and toward a fresh round of casting for Jake Schreier's film, which is slated to arrive on May 5, 2028.

Emma Frost is a mutant who can transform into organic diamond, a role that would sit at the center of any new X-Men film. Other names, including Sydney Sweeney and Rebecca Ferguson, were also rumored for the part, which only sharpened the speculation around Robbie before that was shut down. The key unresolved point is whether Weaving's casting is fully locked in, but if it is, more casting news from the reboot should follow soon.

Robbie has already shown how deeply she can build a comic-book character, once saying she fell in love with Harley Quinn and researched the role while listening to TED talks by women with schizophrenia to help shape the character's unpredictable nature. That history made the rumors easy to believe, which is exactly why the latest correction lands with force: Marvel's search is still open, but Robbie is not part of it.
