Lamont Roach and William Zepeda will fight for the vacant WBC lightweight title on Saturday night, a matchup that puts Roach’s sharp boxing against Zepeda’s nonstop pressure in the same ring. The bout will be shown live on DAZN and TNT.
That is why Roach Vs Zepeda is drawing interest now. Roach enters at 25-1-3 with 10 knockouts, but the record only tells part of the story. He comes in off a pair of exceptionally frustrating draws, and both had the kind of narrow edges that leave a fighter with the feeling he could have had more. He was close in fights against Tank Davis and Pitbull Cruz, and he has already been through a loss to Jamel Herring in 2019 and another tight night against Hector Luis Garcia.
Zepeda brings a very different sort of threat. He is 33-1 with 27 knockouts and has built his reputation on heavy volume punching. He burst onto the scene in 2021 against Hector Tanajara, then spent 2024-25 in two very close fights with Tevin Farmer that he won both times. But his last major step up, against Shakur Stevenson last July, ended in a wide loss after a year away from the ring.
That is the part Roach has to solve. Zepeda can overwhelm opponents by forcing them to work for every clean exchange, yet he has also shown moments where he brings his guard up and freezes when fire comes back at him. Farmer was able to angle off the ropes on multiple occasions, and that matters because Roach has a check hook that could be a useful weapon if Zepeda comes forward in straight lines. For Roach, the question is not whether he can box; it is whether he can keep that level over 12 rounds while the punches keep coming.
For Zepeda, the question runs the other way. His recent work suggests he still has the pace and volume to make a fight ugly for anyone, but the Stevenson loss showed that pressure alone is not enough when the other side can make him reset. Saturday night will decide whether Roach’s timing and discipline are enough to take the vacant WBC lightweight title, or whether Zepeda’s output and edge still belong at the front of the division.
