Authorities searched Linda Blair's Southern California home on Friday, July 31, under an investigative warrant tied to a reported kennel operation and questions about how many animals were being kept there. County officials said the inspection was aimed at buildings and structures associated with a kennel operation reported to have more than 100 dogs.
The scale of the numbers is what makes the case land. TMZ reported that Blair's permit reportedly allowed her to house around 60 dogs, while authorities found 200 canines on the property. The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control and the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning carried out the joint inspection, and the county said the warrant allowed lawful access to the property and verification of code compliance.
That is not the only point of friction. The county said Blair's kennel facility permits expired in 2023, and it said several attempts to contact her went unanswered before the search. But Blair, who posted about the visit on Friday, said the animals were fine in the 105° heat and described the issue as paperwork and diagrams, adding that she hoped to move so she could be more educational and help more animals. She also said the visit came as rescue workers and others were overwhelmed by email and social media.
TMZ reported that Blair was present during the search and was extremely cooperative, and it also said no dogs were removed from the property. The department said it was inspecting the site to determine whether kennel conditions met required standards and stressed that the case remains active and ongoing. For now, the immediate question is not whether the property was searched — it was — but whether county officials decide the number of animals and the expired permits amount to violations that trigger further action.
