Naomi Watts is back alongside Tom Holland, this time as the voice of E.V. in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The casting is visible in the credits, which confirm Watts in the role of Peter Parker's new AI assistant.
That detail is drawing attention now because the film turns the reunion into a quiet callback. Watts and Holland first shared the screen in The Impossible in 2012, when Holland made his feature film debut as Lucas Bennett and Watts played Maria Bennett. Fourteen years later, she returns to his Spider-Man world in a role built into the suit itself.
E.V. is not just background tech. The assistant is integrated directly into Peter Parker's suit, where it monitors his vitals and web-shooter systems, then analyzes combat scenarios while helping with navigation and tactical support. In a franchise that has already paired Peter with Karen in Spider-Man: Homecoming and E.D.I.T.H. in Spider-Man: Far From Home, E.V. extends that line of artificial intelligence companions one step further.
The casting also carries a small twist. Because E.V. is entirely vocal, Watts may not be immediately obvious to viewers on a first watch, even though the credits make the identification plain. That leaves the reunion doing two things at once: rewarding anyone looking closely enough to catch it, and slipping past everyone else as part of the film's machinery.
