Dermot Mulroney will leave Chicago Fire early in Season 15, ending his run as Chief Dom Pascal just as the series moves into a new chapter. The departure comes after he returned for the Season 14 finale, making the exit a sharp turn rather than a slow fade.
That timing matters because Season 15 opens on October 7 at 9 p.m. ET, when viewers will see the fallout from the Season 14 finale. Mulroney joined the show in Season 13 as a series regular after Eamonn Walker’s Wallace Boden had carried the post of chief across the first 12 seasons, so his exit closes another leadership era at Firehouse 51.
In the finale, Severide and Pascal talked through the chief’s professional options, including Chief of Firehouse 51 and Chief of Fire Investigation. That conversation now reads less like a turning point than a last look at a character whose path was already narrowing. Mulroney had been on hiatus for the latter half of Season 14 before coming back for the finale, which made his return feel like a reset. Instead, it is now clear that the reset was temporary.
Mulroney’s exit also lands in the middle of broader change at Chicago Fire. Andrea Newman is leaving after 14 seasons and three seasons as showrunner, and Victor Teran has been named to lead Season 15. Joe Miñoso will also conclude his storyline early in the season, while Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo have signed new deals to continue. Hanako Greensmith, Jocelyn Hudon, and Brandon Larracuente are also expected back, and Da’Vinchi is set to join in the fall as Marcus Burke, a firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51.
The unanswered part is not whether Mulroney is leaving. It is what event in Season 15 will finally end Chief Dom Pascal’s story. With the premiere set and the fallout from the finale waiting in the wings, Chicago Fire is entering the season with a leadership shift already in motion and one more departure to explain on screen.
