Dermot Mulroney will wrap up his storyline early in Season 15 of Chicago Fire, cutting short Chief Dom Pascal’s run just as the show opens a new chapter. The exit lands after Mulroney returned in the Season 14 finale, where Pascal’s future was still hanging in the balance.
That timing matters because Season 15 premieres on October 7 at 9 p.m. ET, and the show is set to address the fallout from that finale as the new season begins. Mulroney joined Chicago Fire in Season 13 as a series regular, stepping in after Eamonn Walker’s Wallace Boden era ended across the first 12 seasons.
In the Season 14 finale, Pascal and Severide discussed his professional options, including Chief of Firehouse 51 and Chief of Fire Investigation, before an emergency call cut the conversation short. The team was sent to a major warehouse fire, and Pascal ended up outside trying to save colleagues as the roof began to collapse. That finale left the character in the middle of the action, which makes an early Season 15 exit feel less like a clean handoff than an unfinished shift.
Mulroney has also been juggling other work, including The Hunting Wives, where he played Jed Banks. In May, he said production had finished on that show’s second season and that a writers’ room had begun for a possible third. On Chicago Fire, though, the path is narrower: the next season will move forward without him, and the production changes around the series only add to the sense that Firehouse 51 is being reshaped as it heads into Season 15.
Chicago Fire is also saying goodbye early in Season 15 to Joe Miñoso, while Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo have signed new deals to stay on. Hanako Greensmith, Jocelyn Hudon and Brandon Larracuente are also expected back, and Da’Vinchi is joining this fall as Marcus Burke, a firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51. With Victor Teran taking over as executive producer and showrunner, the season is starting with a different creative guardrail in place. The unanswered question is not whether Mulroney is leaving, but how soon Season 15 will close the door on Pascal’s unfinished story.
