Amazon MGM Studios has released the first teaser for Michael B. Jordan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, giving the film its first public look and putting a March 2027 theatrical release on the clock. Jordan, who directs the movie and stars as Thomas Crown, had already posted the poster on Tuesday, but the minute-and-a-half preview is the first chance to see the project moving.
That is enough to explain why the title is suddenly back in circulation. The new film is being positioned as the fourth version of The Thomas Crown Affair, a story that has been remade before and has always carried a certain mix of style, theft and flirtation. The teaser leans hard into that formula, with action scenes, close-ups of Jordan’s upper body and Adria Arjona as the love interest, while keeping the story’s basic outline under wraps.
It also gives viewers a sense of the setting, if not the mechanics. One shot appears to place the characters inside a museum whose grand staircase resembles the Great Hall steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and another centers on a prized art piece that looks like it could nod to one of Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower paintings. There is heist-adjacent behavior, but no clean explanation yet of what Thomas Crown is after or how the new version will shape the caper around it.
That missing piece matters because the 1999 film was not just a theft story. Pierce Brosnan’s Crown stole a Claude Monet painting from The Met, and Rene Russo’s Catherine Banning arrived in a wardrobe that helped define the movie’s mood, including a slinky, semi-sheer black dress by Randolph Duke’s revival of Halston. Most of Russo’s looks came from Michael Kors in his debut collection for Celine, giving the earlier film a fashion identity that the teaser for Jordan’s remake has not yet matched.
The new trailer suggests the remake is leaning more on motion and glamour than on the kind of fashion-forward detail that made the 1999 version linger. Michael B. Jordan may have the title role and the camera, but the public still has not seen whether this version will recover the same sense of polish that helped turn the earlier film into more than a simple art-heist setup. For now, the release date is the clearest answer: the next The Thomas Crown Affair reaches theaters in March 2027.
