Peter Parker has recovered the Lexicon, the ledger tied to New York’s criminal underground, and Castle comes at him hard: first opening fire on a building, then launching missiles when Peter refuses to hand it over. For readers who know Frank Castle as a grim, power-free vigilante, that is a sharp turn. He was built as an enemy of Spider-Man, but later became a favorite in the era of 80s action movies and revenge flicks, when the character’s blunt force approach found a wider audience.
That is why the new issue is landing with such force today.
