Kansas City returned to CPKC Stadium on July 29, 2026, and the home date carried real weight before the first whistle. The Kansas City Current hosted Racing Louisville FC in a Wednesday NWSL match at 7 p.m. CT, opening a two-match home week with a chance to keep a rare run intact.
The matchup was available nationally on CBS Sports Network and on the World Feed, with fans also able to watch on The Spot – Kansas City 38 or through The KC Current App in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Kansas City also tied the night to Soccer at Schools Night and Celebrating Black Culture, with the 2026 KC Current Media Game set for halftime.
The interest was easy to understand. Kansas City held a 5-4-2 lead in the all-time series and had beaten Racing Louisville three straight times by multi-goal margins, including a 4-2 win at CPKC Stadium on June 14, 2025, and a 2-0 result in Louisville on Aug. 1, 2025. In that August match, Temwa Chawinga scored in the 65th minute and Elizabeth Ball added another in the 72nd minute, a goal that came in her 100th regular season appearance.
Debinha added another layer to the matchup. She had produced 12 goal contributions against Racing Louisville across all competitions, with seven goals and five assists in 11 career matches, and she had been directly involved in at least one goal in eight of those 11 games. Croix Bethune also arrived within reach of a club mark, sitting on six regular season assists and one away from a new Kansas City Current single-season record.
That backdrop mattered because Kansas City entered the night with a 24-match regular-season home unbeaten run at CPKC Stadium, but the last home game there ended 2-2 with San Diego on July 17. The Current had not gone two straight regular-season home matches without a win since moving into CPKC Stadium in 2024, and when it followed a non-win at home, it had outscored opponents 16-3 in the next one. Louisville was the next test, and for Kansas City the point was not nostalgia but maintenance: keep the streak alive, stay sharp through a two-game week, and protect a home field that has been hard to break.
For Elizabeth Ball, the night fit into a larger arc too. She had just signed a one-year extension through the 2027 season with a mutual option for 2028, and another home result would keep the Current’s momentum pointed in the same direction. The immediate question was whether Kansas City could turn a packed home date into another win without letting the July 17 draw become the start of a pattern.
