Suri Cruise has legally changed her last name from Cruise to Noelle, a move that makes formal what had already started to appear in her public records. Page Six reported the change on Monday, July 27, saying the 20-year-old Carnegie Mellon University student is now using the surname tied to her mother’s middle name.
The timing matters because her name had already surfaced in places that usually reflect legal identity. In October 2024, she registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, under Noelle, and Pennsylvania courts say residents can register only with their legal name. She also used Noelle in her high school graduation ceremony pamphlet in June 2024, making the later legal change look less like a surprise than the final step in a shift already underway.
Noelle is Katie Holmes’ middle name, and the choice appears to fit a long-running effort to step out on her own. A source previously said she was showing praise for her mother and wanted her own identity, and that using Noelle could help her avoid the paparazzi and start fresh at college. The surname change also marks a clean break from Tom Cruise, from whom she has been estranged for much of her life.
There is, however, one missing piece: the filing itself. Suri did not file a name change request in Allegheny County, where she is registered to vote, which leaves open the question of where the legal change was actually made. It is possible she completed it in New York before moving for her studies, but the public record cited so far does not confirm that. What is clear is that by the time her college life and voter registration were being documented, Noelle had already become the name attached to her legal and public identity.
