Netflix has licensed the first four Power series from Lionsgate Television, and the rollout starts at the beginning of November. The deal brings Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force to Netflix in most of the world, while the mothership Power also moves to Netflix in the U.S. in November.
The timing matters because viewers who have followed the franchise across platforms will soon find a major part of it in one place. Michael Rainey, Jr., who stars as Tariq St. Patrick in Power: Legacy, is tied to a universe that is expanding even as its older seasons shift again, and that makes the November window the next point of reference for fans looking for where the shows land.
The licensing pact covers all six seasons of Power, four seasons of Ghost, three seasons of Force and five seasons of Raising Kanan. All of those seasons will continue to be available on the Starz app and other Starz streaming and on-demand platforms, and Starz says it remains the primary U.S. home to the Power universe. Power: Origins and Power: Legacy are not part of the Netflix deal and will stay with the Starz platforms.
That is where the arrangement gets less neat than the headline suggests. Netflix is gaining the franchise in most of the world, but the deal is not exclusive, so Lionsgate Television can still license the shows to other platforms in the territories where Netflix has them. The split also leaves Canada out entirely, with the franchise continuing on Starz in Canada through its partnership with Bell Media.
The move follows a run of licensing deals that have already pushed other Starz titles onto Netflix, including Outlander, Black Sails and Heels. Lionsgate Television also licensed Power to Hulu in the U.S. in 2017, which is why the November shift matters now: all seasons of Power are leaving that arrangement for Netflix, while the rest of the universe keeps circulating on Starz. The next hard date is the beginning of November, when the first four series begin arriving and the final map of where viewers watch them becomes clearer.
