Two top-prize New York Lottery Take-5 tickets turned up in Jefferson County on Saturday night, and both were sold in Adams. Each ticket paid $6,300, giving two separate winners the same top-prize payout from the same drawing.
The tickets came from two different stops on Route 11: one at Stewart’s and the other at Kinney Drugs. Together, the two wins added up to nearly $31,500 in Saturday winnings across New York, a haul that also included top-prize tickets sold in Manhattan, Niagara Falls, and Rego Park.
That is what makes the Jefferson County result stand out. The county had two of the top-prize tickets from the same New York Lottery Take-5 drawing, while three other top-prize tickets were sold elsewhere in the state the same day. The lottery says about 1 in 9 people win, a figure based on how often any given ticket matches one of the game’s prize combinations.
What the numbers do not give away is who walked in with the winning tickets. The names of the winners were not identified, leaving Adams with two prizes on the books and no public face attached to them. For now, the clearest answer is the one already printed by the payouts: two people in Jefferson County each left with $6,300 after Saturday night’s drawing.
