Coy ‘Denver’ Parton, Dolly Parton’s brother, died Thursday, July 23, at the age of 82. The death was reported through Atchley Funeral Home, and his funeral services will be private.
Parton was remembered as a father and husband whose life stretched from hard work to family ties. He spent years as a crane operator building bridges, worked as a homestead farmer and was known as an avid hunter.
The loss lands now because it closes a family chapter that was always partly public and partly private. Parton is survived by his daughters, Chris Parton and Jennifer Parton; his grandson, Ian Parton; his fiancée, Taylor York; his brother, Bobby Parton; and his sisters, Willadeene Buzzeo, Dolly Parton and Stella Parton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Parton, along with both of his parents and younger brothers.
One detail remains unanswered: the cause of death is still unknown. That leaves the family’s obituary complete on names and relationships, but not on the final medical fact behind his death, even as the arrangements themselves are kept out of public view.
