Samantha Chaney said Friday, July 17, was her last day at WBZ-TV, ending nearly two years at the station. She announced the Samantha Chaney WBZ-TV departure in a Facebook post last week, saying she was grateful for the people she met and excited for where the journey takes her next.
Chaney did not say what she will do next. In her post, she called the job a dream she had chased since childhood, writing that she used to jump into her dad's news van after school and tag along on stories. She said every day she had the chance to wake up and do what she loves was a gift, and she thanked the work friends, journalists and viewers who trusted her with their stories.
Her time at WBZ-TV included coverage of the rescue of two teens from the top of Mt. Washington, a fatal shooting at a New Hampshire country club, the fall 2025 federal government shutdown and last summer's Fenway Park concessions worker strike. Those stories gave her a fast-moving run at the station after she joined in September 2024.
Before WBZ-TV, Chaney worked in New York City as a general assignment reporter at News12 Bronx and was nominated for a New York Emmy Award. She also held off-air roles with the CBS Political Unit, CBS This Morning and the CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell, while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and political science from Howard University and a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
The departure also fits the family path she described in her post. Chaney said her father, Dave Chaney, spent 46 years as a photojournalist at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before retiring in 2024, and she said that seeing that work up close helped shape the career she eventually built for herself. WBZ-TV did not immediately respond to a request for comment, leaving her next move as the only open question in a farewell that was otherwise clear: she is done with WBZ-TV, but she is not done chasing reporting.
