That clip showed uniformed law enforcement personnel walking onstage before returning with instruments and turning the audition into mariachi. Mel B said she first could not tell what they were saying, then recognized the tune as "Walking on Sunshine" and praised the way they had made it into mariachi. She said she had never heard that before. Sofía Vergara said she loved it, and Howie Mandel cut to the chase with: "Murder and mariachi. Tonight at 9."
The performance landed because it was both unexpected and polished. Simon Cowell said he did not think the judges were expecting that, adding that he assumed the group would be a choir before they started to play. Once the music began, he called it very happy and said the audience loved the audition. The LAPD later framed the moment as a piece of Los Angeles culture, saying the officers were moving on with the iconic LAPD look.
Los Servidores describes itself as a group of law enforcement members who gather and sing for their community throughout the Southern California area, and the band’s Instagram page says it includes LAPD officers and members of multiple Southern California law enforcement agencies. That detail leaves one question open: exactly which agencies are part of the group.
