Taco Bell has added two new $3 Pepper Jack Steak Burritos to its Luxe Value Menu, and the chain put them in the Taco Bell app before they reached restaurants. The Melty Pepper Jack Steak Burrito and the Fresca Pepper Jack Steak Burrito were set to arrive at participating Taco Bell restaurants nationwide on July 23.
That date is why the new burritos matter now. People who wanted the Taco Bell new items did not have to wait for the restaurant rollout to start trying them, and the app gave early access to both burritos at a price that sits squarely in the value lane. Taco Bell also introduced Pepper Jack Sauce, which customers can add to almost any menu item.
The two burritos are built differently. The Melty Pepper Jack Steak Burrito comes with grilled marinated steak, seasoned rice, a three-cheese blend, crispy red strips, and creamy Pepper Jack Sauce in a warm flour tortilla. The Fresca Pepper Jack Steak Burrito uses grilled marinated steak, cheese, lettuce, fiesta strips, tomatoes, and spicy ranch. Both cost $3, which keeps them aligned with the chain’s low-price positioning even as the fillings split the menu into a richer, melty option and a fresher, lighter one.
Taco Bell already had up to nine burrito options on its menu before these additions, so the new pair does not fill a missing category so much as widen one that was already crowded. That makes the naming and the launch more interesting than the price alone. The company did not say why it chose these two variations, but the split suggests a simple idea: one burrito leans into cheese and sauce, while the other pushes crunch, lettuce, and tomato.
There is also a small wrinkle in the launch. The burritos are being sold as new, but Pepper Jack Sauce may feel new to customers or like a return, depending on what they have ordered before. Early reactions appear to be positive, and one Reddit user said they added the Pepper Jack Sauce to a chicken quesadilla and it was delicious. For now, the only confirmed next step is the July 23 restaurant rollout, and Taco Bell has not said how long the burritos or the sauce will stay on the menu.
