Bon Jovi returned to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday with a 23-song show that ran two hours and 25 minutes, a fuller performance than the shortened concert it played there on Sunday. The band restored several missing songs and gave Jon Bon Jovi another closely watched night in New York.
That mattered because this month’s residency, which began July 7, is Bon Jovi’s first public, large-scale run of concerts since 2022. Jon Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord surgery that year, and the New York shows have been treated as a test of how his voice would hold up across a full night.
The numbers told the story. Sunday’s concert lasted two hours and five minutes and included 20 songs. Tuesday added three more, and with them came the return of Wanted Dead or Alive, Always and Red, White and Jersey, all of which had been skipped two nights earlier. Raise Your Hands was back for the first time since 2019, and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead returned for the first time since 2022.
Those changes were easy to hear in the set list. Raise Your Hands replaced Lay Your Hands on Me, while I'll Sleep When I'm Dead took the place of This House Is Not for Sale. On Tuesday, Bon Jovi sounded strong, and the longer show suggested the band had adjusted after the earlier night without saying so publicly.
That silence is what kept Sunday from fading into the background. The band offered no explanation for the shorter concert, even as the omission of Wanted Dead or Alive set off concern among fans who had come expecting the standard sweep of the catalog. The return of the song on Tuesday answered the immediate question on stage, but not the one about why the set had been pared back in the first place.
Bon Jovi still has two more Madison Square Garden shows to play in the residency before heading to Europe for stadium dates throughout August and September. If Tuesday is the new baseline, the remaining nights will show whether Sunday was a one-off or the first sign of a more careful approach to the road ahead.
