Paramount Pictures has revealed the first look at Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, giving the film its clearest image yet and putting the role at the center of its campaign more than a year before release.
The poster shows Depp in a black hat with snow gathering on the brim, but only his eyes are visible. That narrow reveal does the job of a teaser: it confirms the casting while keeping the rest of Scrooge hidden, including the full look the film is building around.
Depp is stepping into Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in a version directed by Ti West and shaped from Nathaniel Halpern’s script. The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge as a close-fisted businessman who is haunted by the Christmas ghosts of the past, present and future, and those encounters push him toward a different way of living.
The cast around Depp includes Arthur Conti, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Ian McKellen, Ellie Bamber, Charlie Murphy and Tramell Tillman. Emma Watts is producing, with Andrew Larry, Pete Chiappetta, Jason Forman, Stephen Deuters, Adam Bohling, Anthony Tittannegro and David Reid serving as executive producers.
What the poster does not show may matter as much as what it does. Depp’s eyes and hat give the character shape, but not the full design, leaving the movie’s interpretation still partly concealed even as the studio starts selling it as a fresh take on a familiar story. That restraint keeps the focus on the reveal itself and on the film’s next fixed point: a Thanksgiving theatrical release on November 13, 2026.
West, whose recent work includes Pearl, MaxXxine and X, is approaching Dickens’ story through a darker lens, but this first image suggests the production is still holding back the most revealing part of the transformation. For now, the answer to how Depp’s Scrooge really looks is only partial, and the full picture will have to wait until the movie comes closer to theaters.
