A two-alarm fire destroyed the Bauman's Farm Market building early in the morning, shutting down Five Mile Line Road and Plank Road as crews dealt with the blaze at Bauman's Farm Market & Greenhouses.
The family said a security notification came in around 2:30 a.m., and by the time the fire had burned through the site, a barn was completely destroyed as well. In a statement posted on the farm market's website, the Bauman family said everyone is safe, even though the building at the center of the business was lost.
That is why the fire cuts deeper than a roadside closure. Bauman's Farm Market has been in business since 1908, and this generation has run it since 1984, making the damage not just a property loss but a hit to a family operation with deep roots in Rochester, N.Y. The market's name is tied to the place itself, and when the building fell, the loss went with it.
