Masters of the Universe is set to begin streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday, July 22, giving the fantasy film a fast move from theaters to home viewing after a 47-day theatrical window. The release puts Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Adam back in front of viewers who missed the big-screen run, or who want to revisit it without waiting for a disc or a later window.

That timing matters because the film did not light the box office on fire despite a $170M production cost. It opened domestically with $29.4M and finished with $64.6M in North America and $113.3M worldwide, numbers that make the streaming launch feel less like an encore than a reset. Galitzine plays Prince Adam, who has been separated from Eternia for 15 years before the Sword of Power sends him back to face Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, alongside Teela and Duncan, with Camila Mendes and Idris Elba in those roles.

The movie itself has been a long time coming. Directed by Travis Knight, it is based on the 1980s toy property and syndicated animated TV series, and it spent 18 years in development with Escape Artists before reaching theaters. Chris Butler and Aaron Nee, along with Adam Nee and Dave Callaham, worked on the screenplay, while Aaron Nee and Adam Nee, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch handled story duties. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner and DeVon Franklin produced the film.

There is still one point Prime Video has not spelled out: whether July 22 means the title lands for all subscribers or only through a separate purchase or rental option. That matters more than the calendar date for viewers who are deciding whether to wait or pay again, especially after a box office run that left the studio looking for a bigger audience than theaters delivered. For now, the clearest answer is that Masters of the Universe has a date, and it is moving to streaming on Wednesday.
