Hannah Rapp, a 26-year-old boxer building a life between training and a full-time job, died after a bicycle crash in Brazos County on Saturday morning. Deputies were called just before 10 a.m. to the 23000 block of FM 159 for a major crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist, and Rapp later died at a local hospital.
Her death turns a morning road crash into something far more serious. The Brazos County Sheriff's Office said Charles Medina, 31, was arrested and charged with manslaughter after the collision, and investigators said the incident appears to have been isolated.
Rapp had moved from Indiana to the Bryan-College Station area about two years ago and had been boxing for fewer than five years. In a June feature with KBTX, she said she balanced training with her job at Texas A&M and used vacation days, and sometimes unpaid time off, to prepare for fights. That made her one of the people around the sport trying to chase a bigger future while keeping a regular paycheck.
The sheriff's office said Medina passed two bicyclists traveling along FM 159, then stopped his vehicle, reversed, and struck one of them. That detail complicates any simple traffic explanation. It suggests a sequence that went beyond a single moment of inattention or a routine roadway collision, even as investigators have not said why he stopped and backed up.
Medina was taken to the Brazos County Detention Center without incident, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. For now, the case leaves behind two facts that are hard to reconcile: a young boxer trying to build a career, and a crash that authorities have already moved to treat as a manslaughter case.
