France is heading into a hot, bright weekend, with the air expected to feel more breathable after the strong heat of the previous days. But the relief will be uneven: Corsica is forecast to climb to 38-39°C, while the South-East stays under pressure from heat, wind and dryness that keep fire danger high.
That warning matters now because Saturday and Sunday should bring full sun to much of the coast, making this one of the clearest weather shifts of the week. On Saturday, sunshine is expected to dominate most French beaches, with 21 to 26°C along the Manche, up to 30°C on the Atlantic coast and 33 to 35°C around the Mediterranean. The Côte d’Azur should sit near 35°C, and some clouds may pass over Bretagne and the Pays basque. In the east, a few thunderstorms may still linger near the Jura, the Alpes and the Nord-Est before easing in the evening.
The hotter readings remain concentrated where the heat has the most bite. Around the Mediterranean, temperatures should stay near 33 to 35°C on Saturday, while the South-East keeps the highest fire risk, especially between the basse vallée du Rhône, Provence, Languedoc and Corse. The risk is not just a question of temperature. Weak to moderate wind on Saturday may limit some spread, but it does not cancel the dry ground and warm air that make ignition easier.
Sunday extends the same pattern rather than breaking it. Sunshine should continue along the entire French coastline, with 32 to 33°C possible on the Atlantic coast and 34 to 36°C in the South-East, which remains the hottest area. Corsica could again reach 38°C, and some Mediterranean areas may see stronger winds that make the sea rough at times. The open question is how long the elevated fire risk will remain in place after the weekend, because the forecast still leaves the South-East with the kind of weather that can turn a hot day into a fire problem fast.
