The recall was classified as a Class 2 event, which places it in the category used for problems that can cause short-term effects but are not usually life-threatening.
The classification sits at the center of the recall’s odd balance. The garlic powder was sold nationwide, including online, yet the warning was not treated as the most severe kind of food safety action. That does not make the recall routine.
