Netflix will add Deseo to its catalog on Friday, July 17, 2026, giving Ludwika Paleta’s latest film a second life two months after its quiet cinema run. The thriller erótico, a co-production between Mexico and Spain, reached theaters in May 2026 and quickly faded from view.

For Paleta, the timing puts Lucero back in the spotlight just as viewers are looking for a new title to stream. She plays a successful lawyer who feels increasingly empty inside, and her story turns when she meets Matías, the new swimming instructor for her children, played by Óscar Casas. What begins as a romance grows more complicated when Lucero’s daughter also falls for him.

The numbers help explain why the Netflix move matters. Deseo drew only 1,443 spectators in theaters and took in 9,826 euros, according to ICAA, a result that left the film far below the kind of audience Spanish-language thrillers usually need to build momentum on the big screen. Streaming now gives the title a wider stage, and it arrives at a moment when Paleta is already drawing strong attention in Mexico.

Casas has also helped define how the film wants to be seen. In an interview published by Crónica Global, he said Matías is simply a boy chasing his desire and that, in his view, the other side — Lucero and the family around her — carries more of the blame. He also said he does not like sex scenes that feel too mainstream, too explicit or too close to porn, and that in Deseo the intimate scenes were filmed through erotism and truth rather than pose or prettiness. That framing matters because it shows the film is not trying to sell itself as polished melodrama; it is pushing desire as the point.

There is still a catch. The same film that is now being positioned for a broader audience barely registered in cinemas, which means Netflix is not simply releasing Deseo again so much as trying to find the audience the theatrical run missed. Whether that audience is there will be tested as soon as the title lands in the catalog on July 17.
