Riot Games is introducing optional League of Legends parental controls in the United States, giving parents new ways to manage how children interact in League of Legends, VALORANT and Teamfight Tactics on PC. The controls let parents limit text and voice chat to friends only, block friend requests and see the friends connected to a child’s account.
The move matters now because it reaches some of Riot Games’ largest and most social gaming communities at once, and it gives parents a single place to set limits through a Parent Portal. To turn the features on, a parent must log into the child’s account, enter an email address in the designated field under the account management tab and then follow the email instructions to create and access the portal.
The rollout starts with optional controls, which means families have to choose to use them. It also starts narrowly. The feature set is available for League of Legends, VALORANT and Teamfight Tactics on PC in the United States, even though Riot Games says it is actively working on more parental control tools and plans to keep expanding Parent Permissions over time.
That limits the first wave of protection to PC players and leaves a gap for other parts of Riot Games’ lineup. Riot Games says it is exploring additional games for the future and wants to bring Parent Permissions to TFT Mobile, with the goal of rolling that out by early 2027. For now, the company is betting that parents who want more oversight will use the account page on a child’s Riot account and the Parent Portal to decide how much access stays open.
What comes next is less about the launch itself than how far Riot Games chooses to extend it. The company has already set out the path to TFT Mobile, but families with children on other games will be waiting to see whether the rest of the company’s catalog gets the same tools.
