Flood warnings stayed posted this morning for large portions of the Highway 90 area and into the Hill Country as heavy rain west of San Antonio increased again. Another round of rain was poised to move north into the area later in the morning, keeping the threat of flooding alive while the weather pattern remained active.
Justin Horne said KSAT meteorologists were watching river levels closely, and that is the reason people were looking again this morning: the rain had returned, the warnings were already up, and the situation could change fast. Coverage was spreading across the viewing area, with the heaviest activity over Frio, Medina and Uvalde Counties, and more activity expected around San Antonio this morning.
The flooding concern matters now because the risk is not confined to one short burst of rain. Heavy rainfall west of San Antonio was building again, and the flood risk was expected to stay in place from San Antonio and points west through tonight. Torrential rainfall and flooding could take place at any point, even as a decrease in activity was likely this afternoon.
That is the friction in the forecast: rivers had only risen to minor flood stage so far, even with warnings already posted across a broad area. KSAT meteorologists were monitoring the situation and the river levels, but the more immediate worry was what a second round of heavy rain could do if it fell on ground already running fast.
Severe weather was also developing in the same rain shield, with strong winds and rotation possible. More heavy rainfall may develop Wednesday night into Thursday morning, but drier weather was expected by Saturday and Sunday. For now, the broad message is clear: the west side of the region stays in the flood zone, and the next few hours matter most.
