Rutschman and Bazzana were chosen for the American League team, while Wrobleski is the lone Commodore alumnus on the National League side.
That is why the names are drawing attention now. The game is set for Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park, with first pitch at 8:00 p.m. EST, and Bazzana’s selection stands out because he is there even after a.238 season with seven home runs and 38 RBIs. The Cleveland Guardians infielder, who played for the Commodores in 2023, is being measured against a summer run that looked far different:.382, 31 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in Cape Cod.
Rutschman brings the clearest All-Star pedigree. He played for the Commodores in the 2017 season, is going to his third MLB All-Star Game and already appeared in the 2023 and 2024 All-Star Games. This season, he is batting.252 with eight home runs and 43 RBIs in 58 games, and he has thrown out 15 of 40 runners trying to steal bases.
Wrobleski’s path is different, and that contrast sharpens the story. He played for the Commodores during the 2019 season, when he worked nine games, started three and finished one over 23 innings. Now he is headed to his first MLB All-Star Game after logging a 2.69 ERA in 16 games this season, 15 of them starts, across 100 innings. The mix says as much about how far each player has come as it does about the Commodores program itself: one college summer team now has an All-Star in each league, and Bazzana’s place on the American League roster suggests the selection committee valued more than the batting average attached to his name.
