Rapper Eladio Carrión and actor-singer Antonio Cipriano completed the lineup for the inaugural MLBx: All-Star 3-on-3 on All-Star Sunday, locking in the final roster for the new showcase at Citizens Bank Park. The event is set for 3 p.m. on Peacock and NBCSN.
The four-team format now has its full cast: Ryan Howard leads one side, Jimmy Rollins another, Shane Victorino a third and Andruw Jones the fourth. Each team pairs one captain with one professional softball player from the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, with Jordan Mailata joining Team Howard and Alyssa Brito Jordan, Terrell Owens on Team Rollins with Tiara Jennings, Carrión on Team Victorino with Rachel Garcia, and Cipriano on Team Atlanta Braves with NiJaree Canady.
The roster was finalized during All-Star Weekend in Philadelphia, where the event was framed as a fresh way to bring women into All-Star Game activities beyond the old celebrity softball game. The structure also changes the way the afternoon will unfold: Team Howard meets Team Rollins in the first semifinal, Team Victorino faces Team Atlanta Braves in the second, and the two winners advance to the championship game.
That is the shift at the center of the new format. Carrión said he was excited to team up with Victorino for the first-ever MLBx: All-Star 3-on-3, while Owens said baseball was his first love and told fans to expect the group to put on a show. The appeal is simple enough for viewers: four captains, four softball players, two semifinals and one winner, all staged on the same day as the 96th All-Star Game in Philadelphia.
