Patrick Stewart is not done. The 85-year-old actor said in a recent interview with TV Insider that he cannot imagine ever officially retiring, directly pushing back on a wave of social media posts that had said he would step away after appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.
That matters now because the retirement rumor had started to harden into a near-fact online, and Stewart answered it plainly. He said he keeps getting interesting offers and loves being challenged by new work, adding, “I’ll always and forever be an actor.”
Stewart’s remarks also make clear that his schedule is still filling up. He said he will be voicing a pig’s head in Riz Ahmed’s series Bait and will star in Barbaric, while American Dad! is set to keep new episodes coming until at least 2029. He also continues to read the Complete Sonnets of William Shakespeare as an audiobook and voices Deputy Director Avery Bullock in American Dad!
There is a larger backdrop to the moment.
