Jay Leno has driven Ford’s 60th Anniversary Bronco Roadster Concept in a Jay Leno’s Garage video, giving viewers a first look at a one-off that strips the Bronco back to its most open, most nostalgic form.
The timing matters because the Bronco is still a relatively fresh nameplate again. The all-new, sixth-generation model returned as a 2021 model after a 25-year absence, and this concept leans hard into the original recipe that made the first-generation Bronco memorable from 1966 to 1977.
Ford offered that early Bronco in Sports Utility, two-door Wagon and roofless, doorless Roadster body styles, and the anniversary concept is built around the last of those. Rob Gelardi and his team shaped it with a clear goal: remove anything excessive and simplify the vehicle. The result is a retrofuturistic Bronco with a matte Wimbledon White finish, vintage-style bumpers, slotted Fifteen52 Analog HD wheels, a rear tailgate and the new Redster trim along the lower body.
The concept is not pretending to be a fully finished production preview. It has no doors or roof, a manual gearbox, low-back bucket seats covered in silver diner vinyl and a small open rear storage area, which gives it the feel of a design exercise rather than a showroom product. Even so, the setup looks close enough to a street-legal vehicle that Ford could likely sell every production version if it ever chose to build one.
That is the catch. The concept is a one-off, and nothing in the current presentation suggests Ford is ready to turn it into a regular model. The company has shown it can use the Bronco name to pull heritage details into a modern package, but for now this Roadster lives as a specialty idea built to be seen, driven and talked about, not lined up for dealerships. For fans of the Bronco and for anyone watching Jay Leno’s Garage, that may be the point: enjoy the run, because the open-air Bronco Roadster is not being promised twice.
