Dean Geyer arrived in Port Charles on Monday as Tristan Roberts, making his General Hospital debut on the same day the soap marked its 16,000th episode. The timing gave his first appearance immediate weight, turning an introduction into part of a milestone hour.
For Geyer, the moment carried more pressure than polish. He said his heart was beating out of his chest on his first day, and the first two weeks brought serious stage fright as he adjusted to a set that expects scenes done in one or two takes. He was also learning the pace of the show after first auditioning for another character, then going through a chemistry read with Kelly Thiebaud and a second with Eden McCoy before landing Tristan Roberts.
The tribute behind the name was not clear to him at first. During the cast photo celebrating the 16,000th episode, Frank Valentini called him over and brought him into the center of the gathering. Geyer said he only learned then that Tristan Roberts was named in honor of the late Tristan Rogers, who played Robert Scorpio on and off from 1980 to 2025.
That was the detail that gave the debut its real meaning. Geyer said he had already sensed the name carried weight, but hearing directly that it was an ode to Rogers changed the moment from a routine casting note into a nod to a fan memory that still resonates inside General Hospital.
The new role also came with a demanding first day. Geyer said his first day of filming paired him with Steve Burton and included a scene with Rebecca Herbst, the kind of immediate workload that leaves little room to settle in. He described the experience as daunting, but also said it meant a great deal to be part of bringing Rogers’ memory back to life.
What comes next is less about the name than the pace. Geyer said the show wants scenes completed in one or two takes, and that leaves him with little margin for hesitation as Tristan Roberts settles into Port Charles. The question now is whether the tribute behind the character can carry beyond the debut and give the new role lasting value with viewers.
