Jack Whitehall is taking brand-new material to Watford Colosseum on September 15, in a work-in-progress show designed to help shape the set before his 2027 tour. Tickets go on sale on Friday, July 17, at 10am, with a pre-sale for Colosseum newsletter subscribers on Thursday.
The 38-year-old is not arriving with a finished hour. He is arriving with a new show he is still writing, and the point of the night is to find out what lands. That makes the Watford date a rare public test run, with the audience getting first access to material that could end up in a much larger tour two years from now.
A spokesperson for the Rickmansworth Road venue put it plainly: Whitehall is writing a new show, and the night will be about helping him work out what is funny before he embarrasses himself on tour. The same message carried the less polished side of the process too — brand-new material, a few misfires and, hopefully, plenty of laughs. That is the trade-off for being in the room early, before the jokes have been sanded down.
Whitehall has spent years on screen as well as on stage, appearing in television comedies including Fresh Meat and Bad Education, which he also co-wrote. He has hosted the BRIT Awards on several occasions and has made travel programmes with his father, Michael. Last year he also told the Graham Norton Show he had filmed an orgy scene at a Watford strip club for Amazon Prime drama Malice, a story that only deepens the sense that Watford has become a recurring stop in his public life.
He is also the latest household name comedian to announce a show at the relaunched venue after Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais. For ticket buyers, the appeal is simple: this is the first chance to see where Whitehall is heading next, and the result will almost certainly be messier, and more revealing, than the polished version that reaches the road in 2027.
