Baron Corbin is back on WWE SmackDown, and he made the return count by wrecking Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams before their non-title match could finish. Corbin stormed into the bout, attacked both men and forced an early end, turning a routine match into the latest turn in SmackDown's weekly chaos.
The appearance was Corbin's first WWE showing in just under two years, a sharp reset for a 41-year-old who exited WWE in Nov. 2024 and had spent time on the independent scene after leaving. On May 20, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that Corbin had wrapped up obligations with some companies he had been working with regularly and was believed to be either signed by WWE or close to it, which made his return less of a total surprise than the timing of it.
That timing matters because SmackDown had a fresh hook waiting for him. Hayes and Williams were already locked in a non-title match, and Corbin inserted himself directly into that conflict instead of easing back into the show with a quiet backstage appearance or a saved-up tease. The move puts him immediately beside two wrestlers who were already in motion, which gives WWE a fast way to turn a return into a storyline instead of a cameo.
The part that does not fit neatly is the timeline around his exit and his absence. Corbin left WWE in Nov. 2024, yet this latest appearance was described as his first in just under two years, a reminder that wrestling departures and returns are not always measured cleanly by calendar dates alone. What is clear is that he came back with history, not as a blank slate: he has previous feuds with Roman Reigns, AJ Styles and Sami Zayn, and he has already held the United States Championship, the NXT Tag Team Championship and the King of the Ring crown in 2019.
For now, Corbin is not just back on WWE television. He is inside the Hayes-Williams fight, and the next step is whether he is there as a passing spoiler or as the person who changes the shape of the conflict completely.
